All About Geoff & Luke

Hi, we’re Geoff and Luke. We have been together for 12 years, and married since 2018. We live in Los Angeles, with our young adopted son Owen. We love to travel, but we are home bodies at heart, and enjoy cooking dinner and eating together as a family each evening, working out each morning, and taking strolls with our pup Sebastian. On weekends we love to have friends over for dinner, or grill in the yard. You can also find us hiking in the mountains, or working on home projects—whether we’re building something in the garage, or crafting gifts for our family. In 2019, we bought our first house, and spent 3 months renovating it before moving in. It’s a sunny 3-bedroom family home on a palm tree-lined street. It’s somewhere we’re truly excited to raise our family.

Our lives completely changed in early 2023 when we got the magical call that we had been selected by a birth mother. Our son Owen was born in Kentucky in February last year, and we took the first flight there to meet him when he was just 6 hours old.

Our adopted son, Owen, is a happy, smiley little boy who loves to play and has a strong will! He loves his food and going on walks with the dog. He’s going to be the best big brother to another adopted sibling, and we can’t wait to see their friendship blossom.

We LOVE the holidays, especially Thanksgiving, and we always spend Christmas with one of our families in either Vermont or England. No matter where we end up, there’s always a whirlwind of activity, with kids running around, too much food, too many presents, but always great memories.

We spend the 4th of July in Vermont with Geoff’s parents. His sister and her family join us for the week, and we all enjoy the New England summer, hanging out by the pool, jumping in the water with the kids, and playing lots of games while Grandpa Doug fires up the grill.

We love the outdoors, and make the most of the hiking and camping around Los Angeles. In the summer, we drive a couple of hours into the mountains and camp for the weekend, and in the winter we always try to make it to the slopes for skiing in California or Vermont. Luke loves to ski, and growing up in Vermont, skiing is a big part of Geoff’s family’s life. There’s plenty of kid-sized ski gear waiting for the next member of the family to give it a go, and join us on the slopes.

The past few years we have also enjoyed vacationing with our parents, whether it’s showing Luke’s parents a new part of the States, or visiting Europe with Geoff’s parents, it’s really great to be together in a new place. Luke’s parents also have a vacation home in France, which has become another destination for us to get together and relax in the summer.

Why Adoption?

We knew we wanted to start a family. As a homosexual male couple, the option that has always resonated most with us is adoption. For us, parenting is about providing a secure and loving home for a child to grow, and not just about where your genes come from. Adoption allows us to provide a great home to children who need one while growing our family.

Family & Home

We are fortunate enough to own our own home—a 3-bedroom house in sunny Los Angeles on a quiet, palm tree-lined street, with views all the way to the Hollywood sign. We renovated the entire house before we moved in back in 2020, and have been happy here ever since. There’s plenty of space for kids and toys, a dining room where we eat dinner as a family each evening, and a big comfy sofa where we cuddle up and watch movies. We have a bedroom right next to Owen’s room, waiting for a new addition to the family.

There is a big yard with room to play games with friends, ride bikes, or kick a football in the sunshine. We are blessed with beautiful weather most of the year and have loads of parks and hiking trails near our home. Plus, we’re just a short drive from the beach where we love to go on the weekends to enjoy the sand and sun.

Luke’s family lives in the English countryside, on the south coast. We visit his parents, Lizzie and Graham, once a year in the summer, and pack in all the nieces and nephews too. Every year some of the family from England come out to visit us here in California.

Geoff’s family lives in Vermont, and we visit at least twice a year. His parents, Diana and Doug, have a beautiful home with a swimming pool that Owen and his cousins love to swim in during the summer. In the winter, Geoff’s sister and family live up in the mountains, perfect for skiing the slopes!

In total, we have 8 nephews and nieces—3 boys and 5 girls! They range in age from 7 to 22, and are all very excited by the prospect of having another cousin in California! Over the years, we’ve seen them grow from babies to high schoolers—changing their diapers, playing Thomas the Train, watching Paw Patrol, running around in the yard, playing games—and couldn’t be more proud.

How others describe me

Luke on Geoff:

Geoff grew up in the green mountains of Vermont with his parents and older sister, Tracy. Athletics was a big part of Geoff’s early life. He was involved in gymnastics, downhill skiing, soccer, swimming and tennis, but his main passion was for singing and dancing. He dreamed of being on a Broadway stage, so after graduating high school, Geoff moved to New York City to pursue an undergraduate degree in musical theater from Tisch School of the Arts. He performed for a few years after graduating—in some (not so) well-known roles like “The Carpet” in Beauty and the Beast and “Carbuckety” in CATS—but eventually decided to enter the world of marketing and advertising. Today, Geoff is a technology consultant. Geoff is very close with his family—he talks with his mother at least 3 times a week and video chats with his niece and nephew, Harper and Wilson, every weekend. He’s very crafty and loves to sew, knit, and crochet. He also enjoys hiking, camping, baking, running, cycling, listening (and singing) to show tunes, and DIY. He’s very excited to make homemade Halloween costumes for his kids!

Geoff on Luke:

Luke grew up on the south coast of England with his parents and two older sisters, Jessie and Amber. From an early age he was creative—he loved to draw houses—and knew he wanted to be an architect. He studied Architecture in Oxford and Paris for his undergraduate, then in 2007 he moved to New Jersey for Grad School, and has been living in the States ever since. After completing his studies he moved to New York and was working as an Architect when he met Geoff. Today he works in Los Angeles, designing buildings all over the country. Luke loves to spend time with our nieces and nephews (of which we have many) and can often be found playing with the kids while the adults talk. He’s happy to be the “silly dad”, making the kids laugh with funny faces or falling over. He believes in leveling with kids, explaining right from wrong, and does not believe in shouting or raising voices. He loves to make time for kids, encouraging them to come out of their shells, and have the confidence to be who they want to be as they figure it out. Luke has a Masters in Architecture from Princeton University, and was a part-time lecturer at USC. He also speaks French, which is a skill he hopes to pass on to his kids!

how we met

How We Met

We met in early 2012 while we were both living in Brooklyn, New York—happily enjoying our 20s in the Big Apple together, having fun with all the city has to offer. Our first date was on Super Bowl Sunday!

Advice to Future Child

We know that life is challenging at times, but we are going to do everything in our power to make sure that you have the life skills and the confidence to step up to those challenges as you grow up. We are so excited to go on this journey with you, and discover who you are, and what you want to be, and help you in any way possible to achieve all that you want to achieve.

Perspectives on Open Adoption

We are definitely open to continuing the relationship with our child’s birth mom, and making sure they grow up with contact. We believe it’s important for a kid to understand their story, where they came from, and how a non-traditional family is made. We are comfortable with sending text and video updates every couple of weeks, and even setting up times to visit in person as they grow up.
