Hello! We are Joni and Nick, and we are excited to be on the adoption journey. Adoption is something we have always felt a strong desire to pursue, as we both have family members who were adopted. Nick’s sister is adopted, as were a few of Joni’s family members, and we look forward to welcoming an adopted child into our loving home.
We have been married for 14 years and are truly each other’s best friend. We live in a friendly neighborhood in a small town in northeast Ohio with our golden retriever, Dolly. We have a strong support system made up of family and friends and maintain close relationships with many nieces and nephews. We enjoy spending time outside, hiking, kayaking, traveling and riding bikes.
We have always discussed adoption as our own families have been shaped by adoption. Nick’s sister was adopted and Joni’s uncle and cousin were adopted. We tried to have biological children but it didn’t work out and we knew we were at a place in our lives financially and emotionally where we could provide a loving home to an adopted child - so we began the process. We have always wanted to be parents and are hopeful that we can find the child we are meant to raise and love.
We live on a quiet street in a beautiful home that overlooks a golf course. We absolutely love spending time in our backyard, sitting around the fire pit with friends and family or relaxing and eating on the deck listening to the birds and wildlife. We have a very walkable neighborhood and a metro park nearby and enjoy taking our dog, Dolly on walks.
The youngest of 3 siblings, Nick is close with his mom, brother and sister as well as their children (3 nephews). He was very involved with all of them as they grew up, watching them when they were younger and attending many sporting events. He is known as the fun and silly uncle with the younger nieces and nephews, always up for singing funny songs, telling jokes and playing games.
Joni is close with her parents as well as her younger sister and brother who each have 3 young children. She enjoys being an aunt and spoiling her nieces and nephews, having them over for sleepovers and movie nights and taking them on fun outings.
We see both sides of our family regularly (birthdays, holidays and special events) and enjoy participating in family traditions. Each year, we host Breakfast with Santa at our house for the kids in our family and we host a Memorial Day picnic at our home each summer. We also enjoy baking cookies with Joni’s family and making hard tack candy with Nick’s family every Christmas.

Nick is an amazing husband, always providing so much support and compassion. He maintains a positive outlook on life no matter the situation. He will make the best father as he has so much love to give and is a great listener and giver of advice. He has a great sense of humor and is always willing to go out of his way to make someone smile. For our niece’s unicorn-themed birthday party, Nick dressed up in an inflatable unicorn suit and surprised her at her house before the party. He has also volunteered as Santa Claus for numerous community events. He’s also up for new adventures - most recently, Joni signed them up to do a Polar Ice Plunge and Nick went right along with it and had a great time!
Written by Nick:
Joni is the kindest person I know. Her first thought is always about someone else and their needs. Joni is friendly, welcoming and she has never met a stranger. She makes people feel comfortable in any situation and will even strike up conversations with people she meets in the grocery store. She will be such a good mom and caretaker as she has so much compassion for others. She is always so thoughtful as she plans activities with her nieces and nephews - she comes up with fun activities and makes them feel so special and loved when they come over. The kids often say that they consider our house their second home as they are so comfortable being there.
Joni was working as a news reporter at a small-town newspaper and Nick worked there as a part-time photographer on weekends. We ended up covering assignments together and realized we shared a similar sense of humor. We went on our first date and both knew pretty quickly the other was “the one.”
We hope our future child knows they are loved unconditionally. We hope they will try new things, even if it’s scary, and know that we are behind them 100%. We hope they will accept and love others and be a kind person in a world where that is so desperately needed. We hope they never feel they need to be a perfect athlete or student - only that they try their best and don’t give up.
We want what is best for our future child and birth parent(s) and are committed to accommodating whatever level of openness the parent(s) are comfortable with. We will always consider the birth parent(s) a part of our family no matter what that openness looks like.
