All About Nick & Katrina
Hello! We are excited to introduce ourselves. Our Names are Nick and Katrina. We have been together since 2019 and have known each other as neighbors and friends since 2011. We do not have any children…yet! We have both wanted kids and deep in our hearts have always felt adoption was our path. Both of us have a great deal of adoption in our family and through that experience have decided we wanted a closed private adoption. We are more than excited to begin a new chapter in our lives by adding little ones to our mix. We both grew up as a family first and cherish our time with them.
Why Adoption?
As stated earlier, we both wanted kids and in our hearts we have felt it was always through adoption. We have lots of it in both our families and tons of experiences with it. We feel it is what God has called us to do and the path he wants us to take. We are excited to be parents and experience this new season in our lives through adoption.
Family & Home
We have both lived in our development in the suburbs of Cleveland Ohio since 2011. There are trails that run through our development that we love and walk every day. Nick moved out and bought his own place before we started dating and after a few years moved back in with Katrina because of how much we both fell in love with the community. We finished remodeling our home and love entertaining friends and family for summer parties and winter holidays. During our parties, we set up our basement for “Nerf War,” where people make forts and mazes. We even use a fog machine for the kids. We both come from large extended families that both include many, many adoptions. As we mentioned, we love our community and consider A LOT of our neighbors to be like family. They helped fix us up and are very much involved with our lives. We love as much as we love our family and cannot be luckier! The rest of our family is spread all over the U.S. which gives a great excuse for another vacation! We are very family-oriented and have blended both of our families in one big family.
How others describe me
Katrina, By Nick…On our first date, I told Katrina that she would always push me to be my best and that holds true every single day. Not only is she the strongest woman I know, but she is also compassionate, beautiful, and even exceptionally funny…which is hard for me to admit! She deeply loves her family and has always had a motherly instinct. I could not have asked or even imagined a better person for myself and future children. I am truly the luckiest man to have found my soulmate and love of my life.
Nick, by Katrina…I was immediately drawn to Nick at our community pool while watching him play with my nephews. He is amazing with them, and with kids, in general. Our connection came so easily and organically that it made it easy to fall in love with Nick. He is the calmest and most patient man I know. His calm nature and relaxed personality is exactly what i need to slow my 100mph tempo. Nick helps me enjoy the moment and appreciate what we have every day. I have never loved anything or anyone as I do Nick.
How We Met
We were neighbors for almost eight years before Nick FINALLY asked Katrina out! If it wasn’t for a neighbor who mentioned to Nick, “Why won't you ask my girl, Katrina, out? I think she is really into you,” we would still assume that neither of us was romantically interested in the other. Ever since, our connection has grown more than we could have ever imagined and paired with our ten-year foundation, it has made our relationship indissoluble.
Advice to Future Child
We promise you will grow up in a large, loving family with tons of cousins and be surrounded by a large community where they will be loved. You will expect tons of affection and unconditional love every single day. Continuous nonstop education and learning from day one. You will learn the importance of gentleness and kindness, but also to show respect to others and earn respect from others. You will have the most excited parents who are more than ecstatic to begin expanding their family and will want nothing but the absolute best for them!
Perspectives on Open Adoption
We have open, closed, and adoption through foster care in our families, although we see the benefits of open adoption to keep the biofamily in the child’s life, we have also seen the strain it causes on the child. The weight of knowing that your biofamily wants to be in the child’s life can be challenging, so, we feel it is best to limit the amount of pressure the child has until he/she is an adult and has the emotional maturity to understand.
