All About Timothy & Katherine

We are Tim and Katie and our story began 12 years ago in Orange County, California. We met at a water polo game where Katie was coaching, and Tim was officiating. We fell in love shortly after and have been married now for 8 years. We spent the first year of our marriage traveling and exploring the world together. We then decided we wanted to start a family and now have 3 wonderful children Sage (6.5), Reese (4.5), and Caleb (3). We as a family put our faith in the Lord as our highest priority. Adoption has been in our hearts from the beginning of our journey together and believe this is the right time/moment for us to finally make that a reality.

Why Adoption?

Adoption has been in our hearts from the beginning of our journey. We currently have 3 wonderful children and wanted a fourth child. God called us to adopt for our fourth baby. Tim was also adopted at a very young age which is another reason being a part of this beautiful process would be the only way we would want to give back and complete our family. We are so looking forward to having the opportunity to add one more beautiful child to our family. We support your decision and are thankful that God put you in our lives to give us the opportunity to give your child a home filled with endless love and open arms. Thank you for your bravery and sacrifice.

Family & Home

We currently live in Southern CA and spend many hours in our backyard playing as a family and running through our overflowing garden. We live in a beautiful family neighborhood and within walking distance to our school. Our children attend a wonderful Private Christian School in which we are very involved in. We love God, family and our friends. We demonstrate a life in which everyone feels loved and cared for. We volunteer at school, attend a local church, and are involved in many sports and activities around our neighborhood. A few including, swimming, softball, soccer, dance, gymnastics, art and piano. We are constantly visiting our local parks, stand up paddle boarding in the harbor, and meeting locals weekly. It fills our hearts to be in connection with our community. Weekend sports, swimming, trips or whatever adventure comes our way. We are actively involved in our church and serve in the youth ministry. Tim works with the children’s youth ministry and Katie works with the children’s youth ministry welcome team, welcoming new and existing families and friends.

Our family and friends hold a special place in our hearts. We have a large extended family who we enjoy spending time with at the beach, snow play, barbecuing and pretty much anything that allows us to be together. All sets of Grandparents are involved weekly with Sage, Reese and Caleb. It is so important to us that our family is involved in our daily lives. Every holiday is spent with almost ALL of our extended family. We love traditions and are constantly exploring and traveling with our loved ones. The family adventures we now take are definitely inspired by our families life experiences. We also often travel to Colorado to visit Katie’s family which involves playing in the snow, hiking and many visits to the zoo.

Our friends are just another extension of our immediate family. We are in constant contact with our friends. Always planning barbecues, pool dates, beach days, and one of our traditions is meeting our friends half way every year and spending a long weekend in Shaver Lake. We organize our activities with our friends. For example, last year on Sage’s softball team, we recruited hal of her kindergarten class and Tim was the head coach. A big part of our Summer is participating on a swim team and being involved with Junior Lifeguards, bringing our friends along and meeting new people. We truly involve our friends in every outside thing we do and we wouldn't have it any other way.

How others describe me

We are a fun and loving couple. We love opening up our home to family and friends and are always making people feel welcome in our home. Tim cares for everyone in his life and is extremely loyal. He wants nothing more than to make sure his family is happy and taken care of. Katie has the sweetest and most kind heart and puts others first before herself. She is the most organized and loving caretaker. We are always up for an adventure with our family.

How We Met

We met on a pool deck in Orange County, California. Katie was coaching her old high school team and Tim was the referee of the game.

Advice to Future Child

First of all, to your birth mother,

Thank you so much for taking the time to get to know us and our family. We commend you for your strength and bravery in taking the steps to find a forever home for your child. We are so thankful you have chosen life for your precious baby and I hope you can see through our story that it is our desire to provide a loving home to your child.

To our sweet baby,

We prayed for you everyday leading up to your adoption into The Fredericksen Family. Your sisters and brother have been waiting for you every waking minute and we feel so blessed to call you ours. Your birth mother is our angel and we love her dearly for giving us the opportunity to be your parents! We as a family want you to know how much we LOVE you! Our family advice would be to love God, family and friends. We will demonstrate a life in which everyone feels loved and cared for. Our family will represent responsibility, honesty, leadership and will be lifelong learners.

Perspectives on Open Adoption

Open adoption is exactly why we are here. We think it is so important for the birth parents to be involved in the child’s life as much as possible. We want the child to know where he/she is from and the history of their ancestry and even who carried the baby for the nine months the birth mother was pregnant. There is nothing to hide and honesty is the best policy. What a blessing it is to give the opportunity for the child to feel extra loved and know that we ALL want a beautiful life for the child.
