All About Alvin
Hi! I’m Alvin. I'm a designer and I love making things. From a young age I’ve been taught to draw and play many instruments. I grew up in Toronto, went to a high school specializing in the arts, and studied architecture / computer science in college. I’m very thankful to have amazing parents who have supported me in my playful interests while guiding me on how to be a successful adult. I'm very fortunate to have learned from the best and will always listen to my child and present them with every opportunity to embrace what they love. Happiness is the key to life.
Why Adoption?
I get asked this question a lot: 95% of my friends who did not bear their own children chose surrogacy. For me, I embrace the unknown. I believe there are many things that are out of our control and in this case, I want to give fate a chance. I think there is a child out there waiting to welcome me into their world and I think that is beautiful.
Family & Home
San Francisco has been home to me for the last 10+ years. I love my friends and family; they mean the world to me and many of them (who coincidentally all have children) live within a 10 minute walk from my house. We regularly drop by each other's homes for a quick chat which usually turns into an evening dinner and movie / game night.
My friends and I are an ambitious, quirky crowd who believe in building community and the arts. We have been very fortunate in our careers and it has allowed us to focus on the things that make us happiest in life. I make it a point to visit my brother and extended family at least once a year. They are currently living in Los Angeles, Paris, Toronto and Hong Kong. It’s a great excuse for all my travels ;)

Go explore! Chase your dreams and turn over every stone to find what makes you tick. Your family and friends will always be here to love and support you through thick and thin.

Perspectives on Open Adoption
People come in and out of our lives. No matter how much or how little of a role they play, they are a part of who we are. I welcome any level of relationship the birth parent(s) are comfortable in developing with my family and I. On a side note, I would love to give my child a story of who their mother is and / or an idea of who she wants to be.
Favorites
- Favorite Movie: Living my life is better than any movie ;)
- Favorite Holiday/Tradition: Late November thru December. Thanksgiving and Christmas all roll into one big holiday with my friends. It’s the time we hang out even more, making projects, decorating etc. it’s the coziest time of the year!
- Hobbies/Interests: making art, playing music and dancing
- Dream Vacation: I live my dream vacation at least once every year!
