All About Cody & Kari

We were both born and raised by a mom and dad and both have a younger brother. Kari is from Wisconsin and Cody is from Louisiana. After each of us traveled a bit (after high school and college), we ended up in Dallas and met through mutual friends. After our wedding in Dallas, we ended up in Austin where we both love being outside, close to family and looking forward to starting many traditions through adoption!

Why Adoption?

After getting home from our honeymoon, we knew we wanted to start a family immediately. After 7 years (multiple losses and many failed fertility treatments), we knew this wouldn’t be the end of our path toward starting a family. Becoming parents has always been our dream and we cannot wait to welcome a child into our hearts through open adoption.

Family & Home

We live in a traditional home, built in 1986, located next to a lake. The best part about our house is the big backyard. We have many family gatherings here when all our little cousins run around and play. The community has a lake, park and walking trails. We live about 45 minutes to the closest big city that has an array of kid's activities, culture, great food and entertainment. Our families live in different states but we visit them constantly. Cody has cousins who live nearby and have small children.

How others describe me

Kari is kind hearted, thoughtful, empathetic, hard working and curious. She can’t wait to become a mom!

Cody is loyal, hard working, compassionate, caring and super funny! He can’t wait to become a dad so he can tell all his dad jokes!

how we met

How We Met

Our story began in the spring of 2014. We met through a mutual friend during a group dinner at an Italian restaurant. Cody made Kari laugh through the whole dinner, so things were off to a great start. After many dates and meeting the families in different states, we got engaged in August 2015. By March 2016, we were married!

Advice to Future Child

It’s ok to fail. You will fail a lot in life. But the most important thing to remember is just keep trying. We love you, God loves you and he has a purpose for your life. Be kind to others, treat people the way you want to be treated and bless others as you will be blessed.

Perspectives on Open Adoption

We feel it’s vital (for our future child) to know who their birth parents are and develop a relationship with them. Our job is to keep that communication open so that our child can feel comfortable and ask questions and don’t feel that they are missing anything in their life.
