Jane and Laurie have been together for almost twenty years. Jane was raised in the Bay Area, and Laurie’s family is in Oklahoma City. We love children, animals, and the outdoors, collectively. Jane is a bookworm and owns several successful businesses. Laurie loves sports, especially bowling, and thrives being a leader in her workplace. We cultivate a home full of love, respect, and compassion for all living beings. We have a large network of family and friends, and we also own a second home in the mountains of West Virginia.
We have always wanted children. We have been trying to have kids via IUI / IVF since we got married (7 years and counting) with no luck. Therefore, we are moving on to adoption. Also, we do have concerns about bringing more children into this world, and would prefer to help children that are already here.
We have a large, remodeled home in a very nice neighborhood that is quite diverse and we live right across from a playground and less than a mile from a library and public swimming pool (Jane LOVES to swim!). Our child will have their own room and bathroom. There is a backyard with outdoor space and a hot tub. One of our best friends lives two houses down from us, and we have many more friends in the DC area. We have also become friends with several of our neighbors. Both Jane and Laurie are very close with their parents and siblings as well as extended family, talking often, and planning trips to visit both. We are also close with our siblings (Jane has an older sister, and Laurie has a younger brother.) We also go out to WV once or twice a month for long weekends. We travel as well: our favorite destinations are St John, Europe, Rehoboth Beach, Martha’s Vineyard, etc.
Jane: Laurie is very compassionate and giving. She goes out of her way to make sure that other people are comfortable. She also has a great sense of humor and an amazing work ethic. She loves her family, friends, and pets and will do anything for them. She is organized and great at keeping track of everything around the house. She is very passionate and gives her whole heart into whatever she is doing.
Laurie: Jane is so incredibly brilliant. She has a truly amazing brain. I call her my dictionary, and she is that and so much more. Her ability to run multiple businesses and manage so many clients and contractors is truly spectacular. She can always make me laugh, and she’s an amazing cook. She’s a wonderful friend, and person in general.
We met in college and have been together since 2002. We married in 2015 in St. John, USVI with 50 of our close family and friends present.
Be yourself. Be who you are, because those who mind don’t matter and those who matter don’t mind. We truly don’t have any expectations for you. We just want you to be happy and to be a good person. Love others, love yourself, and love the planet are our basic principles. Beyond that, we will always love you for who you are, whoever that may be.
We took several workshops during the process of the home study that really hit home with us. We realized that the birth parent(s) are truly choosing adoptive families, not giving their children away. It is very important to us to maintain whatever relationship(s) the birth parent(s) want to have with their child, and we fully respect that and will support visits, contact, and other requests they may have.
