Hello, we are John and Danielle! Thank you for taking the time to learn about our story, and our journey to grow our family. We know that adoption is a special gift, and we look forward to raising a child in a home full of love, fun and new adventures.
We knew that we wanted to start a family shortly after we got married, and began trying to conceive. However, after a year and a half, we decided to follow our hearts and began our journey with adoption. We had spoken of pursuing adoption even prior to being married, and have family members that joined our family through adoption. We are excited for the opportunity to welcome a child into our family through open adoption.
We live in a single family home that was built in the late 1980’s, and has some of the charm that you would expect from that time. When we purchased our home, it had been recently updated and we loved how everything was uniform throughout. Our favorite place in the house is in the finished basement which is pretty large. We love to go down and play with the dogs, watch a movie and enjoy down time together. This would make a great playroom too! Our home has four bedrooms and we already have a room picked out for a child. We live in a historic neighborhood that includes a lot of diversity. We still have some families that have lived here since the neighborhood was built, and more recently, many younger families are moving in. There is a community center that includes a large pool, tennis courts, playgrounds and many walking trails throughout the neighborhood. We love to take the dogs for walks, but they don’t like to go too far! Our city is very close to many activities including museums, cultural festivals, tourist spots near Washington, DC and plenty of great restaurants that any foodie would love. It feels like a small town, even though it is a city.
John is thoughtful, kind and always puts me first. He strives every day to make sure that we are set up to have the best life that we can. He is open to listening to me when I ramble on, even when he would rather I just get to the point. He is a logical thinker, and has a very calm demeanor. He enjoys watching sports, and his favorite teams are the Washington Nationals and the New York Giants. He is very inquisitive, and asks a lot of questions so that he can understand any situation, and this helps him to make good decisions. He is one of the most respectful people that I know and he treats everyone with the utmost respect. One of the things that I love the most about John is his relationship with his family. His family is much smaller than mine, and I am so grateful that he has brought them into my life too.
When I first met Danielle, I immediately knew that she was very outgoing and friendly with everyone. I love how everyone knows when Danielle enters a room. She values her relationships with her friends and family. One of the things that I love about her is that she is so close to her family. This is something that she focuses on all the time. She is learning and caring and always puts others first. She has a drive to be successful at work, and loves what she does each day. I appreciate all of the things that Danielle does to keep the house going. She is very organized, and is always one step ahead.
We met in 2013, while both working for the same company. We began a friendship where we spent time getting to know each other, and quickly learned just how much we have in common. We both are family oriented, and want the same things out of life. We enjoy attending Washington Nationals games, trying new restaurants, going to the movies and bowling. Our relationship began in 2014, and within a year we knew that we were committed to building a life together, and purchased our home shortly after. We were planning to be married in April 2020, but Covid had other plans! We were married in a small ceremony in 2020 with our parents, where we could celebrate the beginning of our life together. Our dogs, Kanye and Harper joined our family in 2015 and 2018. They have brought joy to our lives.
Live life to the fullest and make memories along the way! Be kind to everyone that you meet because you never know what they may be going through. A small act of kindness can go a long way to them. Know that you will be loved, supported and encouraged by everyone that loves you. Even though life brings ups and downs, stay positive and believe that everything will work out as it should.
We are interested in pursuing an open adoption for many reasons. For us, the most important reason is for the child to build a connection with all those that love them. Open adoption helps to build that connection, and we want to embrace that throughout this journey.
