Program Manager / Elementary Art & Engineering Teacher
Hello! We are Kyle and Courtney Young and we are so grateful that you are taking the time to view our profile. As we sat down to write this, we thought of all the things we want you to know, and most importantly we want you to know how deeply we will love our future child. We would also be so honored to welcome you into our family and to maintain any level of openness that you desire. We know that this decision will be difficult so we are praying that most importantly you are led to your perfect match, whoever that may be.
Kyle and I (Courtney) have been married for 6 years and we live in Los Angeles. We love the diversity of LA, and the fact that you can be in the mountains or at the beach in the same day. Just last week, I was at a museum with a friend and her children and was thinking about how there is so much for kids to do in LA. Sports, museums, cultural events, nature walks, there is something for all interests. We are part of a wonderful local church that has a lot of young families, there are always babies running around!
I have been an elementary school teacher for 8 years and I currently teach an art and engineering class at a local public school where students paint, design, build, code, and get to use their creativity. It brings me such joy to connect with my students and watch them grow. The school where I teach is beautifully diverse and works hard to celebrate and honor students’ cultural identities. Kyle is a program manager and runs a coffee shop across the street from UCLA. They host community events and art galleries, and he loves connecting with the people who come in regularly and getting to be part of their lives. One of his life dreams is to write a book!
When Kyle and I are not at work, we like to be outside, bake, watch movies, play games with friends, and read. Our home often smells like fresh baked cookies or bread, and we love to share meals with friends and neighbors. On a perfect weekend day you would find us hiking somewhere around the city, birdwatching, or having a picnic. A trip to a local bookstore or coffee shop would top off the day. We love the idea of sharing these activities with our future children, and with you if that is what you desire.
From the time we started dating, we talked about adopting at some point in our lives. We both see adoption as a way to love birth mamas and babies. We found out a year and a half ago that we cannot have children biologically, so that just bumped up our timeline a bit! We plan to foster and adopt in the future and love the idea of having a family that mirrors the kingdom of God.
We live on the westside of Los Angeles in a large two-bedroom apartment that is part of a beautiful complex. The courtyard has lots of space for games, picnics, and butterfly watching. Because we have two bedrooms, we have plenty of space for a new family member and we have already been dreaming about how we will make their room a special place for them. We know many of our neighbors and have a great relationship with them. We even had a hot chocolate night out in the courtyard!
We love the variety of cultures and activities that LA has to offer such as museums, festivals, outdoor movies, and more. Believe it or not, there is also a lot of natural space nearby. LA has beaches of course, but also mountains, wetlands, wildlife preserves, and lots of beautiful parks. You can even go apple picking only an hour from downtown! There is never time to be bored in LA. One of our favorite aspects of the city is the cultural diversity. One year in my classroom, I (Courtney), had students from seven different countries! I work in a wonderful school district that our future child will attend. There are also a plethora of activities for children outside of school, such as sports, arts, and music. Festivals and celebrations that highlight the variety of cultures in Los Angeles take place throughout the year and there is no shortage of delicious food. We are looking forward to experiencing the city through a child's eyes!
In the 8 years that we have lived in Los Angeles we have developed amazing friendships. The kind of friendships where you can just show up at someone's house and share a meal with them. We enjoy having picnics with friends, doing day trips around SoCal, going to the movies, and having game nights. Many of our friends are also starting families, so our child will grow up with lots of kids around them!
Another aspect of our community is our church family. We attend a small close-knit church here on the westside of LA, and have developed some wonderful relationships in the six years since we joined. I (Kyle) serve on the prayer team and help lead a neighborhood team that provides care for the church. I also volunteer in the children's ministry. I (Courtney) served on the coffee team for 5 years and recently joined the children's ministry team.
Being with family is one of our favorite things and we value the close relationships we share. Our family is awesome! We laugh, play games, build things, and go on adventures together. Our extended family, on the Young side, lives in Thousand Oaks, which is about forty minutes from Los Angeles. Our other extended family (Courtney's side) lives in the Central Valley of California, which is four hours north of Los Angeles. Our future child's Aunt Sammy lives in Chicago. We are thankful that we get to visit often. Our families are so excited to welcome a new member!
Courtney as described by Kyle - She is such a wonderful human, but don't just take my word for it. At our wedding, our pastor chose one attribute about each of us to share as the ceremony began. For Courtney, he talked about how incredibly joyful she is - and I couldn't agree more! Courtney is an elementary school teacher and loves to support all of the people in her life. She is particularly passionate about being an advocate for those she loves - I think it's why she's such a great teacher. Courtney loves to explore nature and learn new things about the world. On a weekend, you will likely find her bird-watching, crafting, baking, or reading a good book.
Kyle as described by Courtney - Kyle is constantly looking for ways to encourage those around him, and he cares deeply about people feeling connected and valued. When he is not reading the latest Star Wars novel or serving coffee at the cafe he manages, you can find Kyle baking cookies or hanging out at coffee shops with friends. Kyle loves learning and having deep conversations. He has this amazing ability to see things from many perspectives. I have been telling Kyle since we met that he is going to be a great dad because of his expansive collection of dad jokes. But that is not the only reason he will be a great father. He is one of the most gentle, patient people I know. He talks often about how excited he is to take our future child on adventures, inspire them to care for the world around them, and teach them about Jesus. Kyle loves hosting people in our home, especially when games are involved and he gets to bake fresh chocolate chip cookies.
In 2013, Courtney moved to Los Angeles to get her teaching credential. She moved into an apartment with four other girls on a Sunday afternoon in June. Around this time, Kyle was working on a project with a friend to start a film school in South Africa. This led him to move into an apartment across the street from Courtney. He walked in the door one evening for a Bible study held at her apartment and Courtney thought he was really cute.
We got married on April 16th, 2016 surrounded by our families and community. Fun fact - there have been four marriages that have come from those apartments on our street!

Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding, and he will make your paths straight.
We are open to any level of contact that you desire. We are happy to welcome you into our family, and the idea of having a family that extends around the country fills us with joy.
