Welcome! Meet:

Michael + Elizabeth

UX Designer & Researcher / Data & Reporting Specialist

All About Michael & Elizabeth

Elizabeth is the creative brains behind our operations: she looks at life with a creative eye and fresh way of doing things. Whether it is redesigning the garden, creating a piece of art to add to the gallery wall, or installing a new kitchen floor, she has the ability to easily reimagine and improve. Where Elizabeth shines as the dreamer and schemer, Michael is the one to roll up his sleeves and make things happen. He’s all about the nitty-gritty details and wouldn’t hesitate to whip out a spreadsheet to map out his plans. Together, we are a dynamic duo turning ideas into reality and making our home a better place to live!

While we believe that work shouldn’t solely define us, we also recognize that finding fulfillment in one’s professional life can be important. Elizabeth leads a team of designers and researchers dedicated to enhancing user experiences for a leading car company. Meanwhile, Michael’s journey to finding his dream job culminated in February 2023. Drawing upon his decade-long experience in the finance industry, he now employs his analytical skills as a data and reporting specialist at a local animal shelter.

Our Oregon home is not only filled with the love we have for each other, but we also share our lives with three amazing animals. Our rescue labradoodle, Traveler, reminds us each day that he is happiest when the whole pack is together. He makes the cutest little sneezy sound when he thinks we are not giving him enough attention! The two cats in our lives are very different. Our 16 year old silver haired cat, Nico Jones, is loud and confident and our 12 year old orange and cream long haired cat, Izzy, is quiet and skittish. The trio make for a very interesting and entertaining group!

Family & Home

Elizabeth is from Western North Carolina. She is an only child, and because of this she is close to her parents, aunts, and uncles. Since she does not have any siblings, it is important to her to bring people together in friendship and community. Friends, family, and community are one of the most amazing, beautiful gifts from life.
Michael was born and raised in the Portland Metro area. He is the second child to his parents Michael and Valerie. His mom stayed home with my sister Sara and him for the first nine years of his life before she went back to work as the IT Manager for the City of Tigard.

Sara was born with serious learning disabilities. As a child, I was given a good amount of responsibility for her care. These early instances of accountability helped me develop a sense of purpose and gain an understanding of the importance of family.
Our Portland neighborhood is full of small, 1940s and 1950s houses. We have a park 2 blocks from our house that is connected to an Elementary school. We take our dog to the park almost everyday. On our block, around 75% of our neighbors have dogs. We have gotten to know them (and their humans). We have a great group of neighbors that check in on each other. This May, we are planning to host our first neighborhood cheese and wine happy hour!
Our house has 2 bedrooms and a basement that we would like to convert into a movie, art, and game room. Elizabeth's mom has a tiny house in our backyard where she lives part time.

We grow vegetables and flowers in the front and back gardens. We have already begun to talk about the traditions we'll establish once we welcome a child into our lives: volunteering at animal sanctuaries and backyard summer movie nights under the stars are two traditions that will create cherished memories that last a lifetime. With each tradition, our family grows stronger, united by love and shared experiences.

How others describe me

I appreciate Elizabeth's ability to have fun, make people laugh, and be silly! I also appreciate her compassion and advocacy for people and animals. Elizabeth is strong and confident and doesn't back down from difficult situations. She likes to try new things and go on adventures. Elizabeth, also, has a keen eye for art, a good ear for music, and has an uncanny knack to be right in her first impressions.

I admire Michael's dedication for helping animals, which reflects his compassionate nature. Additionally I appreciate how Michael approaches teaching others with patience and kindness, embodying emotional maturity in his interactions. Michael's sense of humor never fails to brighten my day. His thoughtfulness and care shines through in everything he does.  Above all, I value Michael's genuine desire to learn and grow alongside me on our journey together.

how we met

How We Met

After some witty banter on an online dating site, we decided to have our first date at a burlesque show at Kelly’s Olympian in downtown Portland on the Sunday before Valentine’s Day 2011. That first date set the tone for our lives together, as we have a lot of fun and spontaneous bursts of song and dance are common in our house.

Advice to Future Child

We are excited for the opportunity to welcome you into our family. Our home is vibrant and filled with joy: dancing, art, music, and the companionship of our fur family! We are looking forward to creating lasting memories together, whether it's through camping adventures under the stars, cooking up delicious meals in the kitchen, tending to our vegetable garden, or embarking on exciting holiday trips to visit family. Above all, we aspire for our home to be a space of kindness and laughter, where you will thrive and find unconditional love.

Perspectives on Open Adoption

In our adoption journey, we’ve wholeheartedly embraced the open adoption process, believing it offers the adopted child the greatest opportunity for love and connection. We want the child’s birth family on this journey with us so that our child can be connected with their birth culture and heritage. Together, we aim to establish new traditions and customs, placing the child at the heart of our growing family. We eagerly anticipate the journey of learning and loving alongside our expanded family!
