Hello! We are Sean and Kate and we have been thinking about welcoming a child into our family for a long time. We like to talk about all the places we want to take a child - everywhere from the local zoo to the Eiffel Tower. We met at a work event and ended up talking for hours afterwards. We both love travel, politics, sports, and books. We are passionate about our work in government and believe in helping people and communities succeed.
When we first started dating we would walk to our neighborhood ice cream shop. The busyness of the world would fade away walking home together with an ice cream cone or chocolate malt. We realized quickly that we make a great team and started planning fundraisers together, running campaigns together, and eventually building a home and a life together. Adopting has always been our family plan. We have both worked with children in our jobs and we know that we want to make a happy family through adoption.
We both have experience working with children in our careers and we both have family members with experience with adoption. We’ve always seen adoption as the way we wanted to grow our family. We can’t wait to bring a “little buddy” into our lives.
We’ve spent the last year remodeling a lovely ranch house to make it a home for our family. It’s a stone house tucked in a peaceful tree-lined neighborhood. Sean’s mom Sally will be living with us, a built-in grandma for a little buddy.
We’ve painted our home in bright, light colors. The living room has a fireplace we light in the winter and a big picture window. There are two big oak trees in the front yard and a side deck where we like to relax. We have a big yard with a little vegetable garden on the side.
We have lots of friends on our street—a friend from book club and her son, three sweet neighbor kids, and our old family friend Bob lives just a few doors down.
The neighborhood holds a little 4th of July parade where kids and adults decorate their bikes and wagons. There is a blue-ribbon school just two blocks away. We are close to the running trail and a large park, where there are big swings to play on.
When we think of home we also think of our family farm. Aunt Kelly and our nieces live there and we visit often. There are farm kitties, a basketball court in the barn, and room to roam.
Our city is a great community, a college town with a lot to offer and a small-town feel. We live near the zoo and are big supporters. There are lots of parks, pools and kid-friendly activities. There are also several cultural centers, theaters, and museums. We can’t wait to share it all with a little one!
Sean is easy to love. He listens to my struggles and helps me find solutions. He is my loveable protector and I know he will be just as protective with your child. He knows how to have fun and is also a good dancer! There is no doubt in my mind that Sean will make an excellent and supportive father.
Kate is the most passionate and compassionate person I’ve ever known. She has such grace and composure as she moves through the world. She knows how to cheer you up when you’re having a bad day and listens when you talk. She is a nurturing person and I cannot wait to see how she blossoms as a mother.
We are both involved in local politics. In fact, we met when Sean volunteered for Kate’s first campaign. We share a passion for public service and believe in giving back to our community. Since then, we have (successfully!) helped one another run for office and achieve new goals.
We believe in you and we are here for you to help you become the wonderful, amazing person you are meant to be. We’ll help you learn about yourself, your culture, your world, your heart, and your adoption and family.
We have big hearts with room for you in the way that makes sense for you. No matter what, if you choose us, we will tell the child how much you love them too.
