Hello! We are Seth and Allison Armstrong and have been married for 6 years. We are teachers in our mid-thirties who live in Northern California in the extended suburbs of San Francisco. We have not been blessed with any children yet but we find our teaching jobs fulfilling and also enjoy caring for the youth at our Spanish church, so we are around kids a lot! We enjoy their fresh perspective and sweet, tender hearts.
We are an active couple and enjoy hiking, playing competitive sports, landscaping, gardening, and just being outdoors in general. We also love to read, bake, and make music! Allison plays piano, clarinet, cello, trombone and a few other instruments, and Seth plays trumpet and leads the church choir. We both enjoy going to concerts and listening to music as well. We can’t wait to share our hobbies and pastimes with our future children!
Allison grew up dreaming of starting an orphanage in Mexico with her friends and Seth always has had a heart for adoption. We love children and hoped to have at least five children. We always hoped to adopt as well, and since we’ve met with some fertility troubles, we have made adoption our priority. We have taken classes to become approved for foster care and are also home study approved to adopt an infant domestically.
We recently purchased a cute vintage cottage in the historic section of Antioch, California, just blocks from the San Joaquin river. The houses in our neighborhood all have unique character and charm and we have managed to preserve and enhance some of those features in our 3 bedroom/2 bath mid-sized home. We have a large open kitchen and dining room that flow into our living room and den where we spend time together. Our backyard is fenced in and private. There are cherry, plum and lemon trees, a grassy area, and room to play, run, and garden together.
We live in a diverse community, made up of many ethnicities. Caucasian, Black or African American, and Hispanics make up a large portion of the population here in Antioch, but many other cultures are represented in our city. Our church community is mainly Latino, since our church is a Spanish speaking church. The Christian school where we teach is a mix of Nigerians, Filipinos, Hispanics, and more. We both speak Spanish and English and love living in and around so many different cultures and learning about their unique lifestyles, customs and traditions. It has expanded our thinking and opened our minds to the amazing variety and beauty that each nationality has.
Seth has family in the area, a sister and his parents who we see frequently. We both come from families of 7 so there will be plenty of aunts, uncles and cousins to visit whenever we are blessed with a child.
Allison describes Seth as patient, caring, intelligent, and driven. He is a loyal, sweet, loving husband. He loves teaching, preaching, reading, baking goodies, playing basketball or watching his favorite sports teams play (go Bulls!). He is a dedicated teacher and spends many hours planning for lessons, grading homework, coaching basketball, and tutoring his pupils.
Seth describes Allison as fun-loving, amazing, and hard-working. She spends a lot of time teaching music, choir, band and piano lessons and enjoys seeing her students grow into talented performers and musicians. She loves organizing, decorating, landscaping, reading, hiking, and playing ultimate frisbee.
Seth was born in Spain, but grew up in Antioch, California, in the same city where we live now while Allison grew up in the windy suburbs of Chicago. A friend of ours, Jojo Mai came to Antioch to teach music and met Seth at the school, and knew he would be perfect for Allison! She invited “Allie” out to California to put on a concert for the students and also to make sure we met and got to know each other. Jojo’s plan worked and the rest is history - we started dating two months later, then eventually, Allison moved out to California to get to know Seth better. We got engaged and married in 2016 and have been living and teaching in Antioch at the same school that Seth grew up attending!
We would encourage our child to be diligent and hard-working, to be kind and to value and respect others, and also to love God and never give up on doing or believing what is right, even if it's hard! We want to model a compassionate and understanding spirit of love towards all people, and hope our children will sense that and become compassionate and loving humans also!
We are willing to have an adoption with open communication if that is what the birth mother prefers. We are also willing to have a closed one, if she believes it is for the best, but would encourage her to consider semi-regular sharing of information and pictures so her child will grow up knowing his or her birth parents and appreciating their sacrifice.
