All About Stephen & Tiffany

We are Stephen(36), Tiffany(33) and John (1)! From Ohio, where Tiffany is originally from. Stephen is from West Virginia. We adopted our AMAZING son John in 2022. We finalized his adoption in 2023 and we are so unbelievably grateful that his birth mother chose us to parent. We have a wonderful open adoption! Stephen is an Army Veteran turned machinist and Tiffany is an RN turned stay at home mom! We live in a small town, 3 houses from John’s grandparents ( Tiffany’s parents) we have a very tight-knit family and most all of our immediate live within 10 minutes from us!

We love animals! We have a hound dog Cooper, or as John says, “Coopy D". Tiffany is obsessed with traveling and swimming! Stephen loves all things trucks and building engines! John is the cutest, sweetest and smartest boy! He loves animals, his stuffed animals, swimming and his family!!

Why Adoption?

Tiffany dreamt about adopting when she was a child, she wrote a poem about adopting when she was 12 years old! Stephen had the same dream to adopt when we discussed our family planning. We did want to try to get pregnant but unfortunately, we both were found to have infertility. We were at a crossroads at trying IVF or adoption. We both knew right away IVF wasn’t for us… DNA was just that DNA. We didn’t need to have that to love our future children. We were so unbelievably blessed to have matched with our son's birth mother. Now that John is nearly 1.5, we want to give him a sibling! He would truly be the best big brother!!!

Family & Home

We love our ranch home! We bought a fixer-upper in 2020. It’s in the country with lots of land and Tiffany’s parents live 3 houses down the road! They have a pond, pool and nearly 100 acres! We are 20 minutes from a major city in Ohio!! But we love our small town country feels.

Tiffany and Stephen are both super close to their parents! Tiffany’s mom and dad are very active in John’s life! And Stephen’s mom lives in WV and we speak often!

How others describe me

Stephen is the calmest, most generous, non-judgmental person I’ve ever met. Being an Army vet, I assumed he would be hardcore… well, he is when he’s protecting our country and us, but he’s the biggest teddy bear inside! The best daddy in the world!!! Just wants our kids to be happy and healthy. They don’t need to be anything they aren’t.

Tiffany is the most loving person and mother I’ve ever met. She is so passionate about everything she puts her mind to. She’s so unbelievably patient with John and her love is contagious. She’s so ambitious, she’s put her whole career on hold to raise our son. She would never do anything malicious or hurt anyone intentionally.

How We Met

We met on Match! Stephen was discharged from the army and 1.5 years later we got engaged! We had a destination wedding with both our families in the Caribbean!

We met John’s birth mother in a Facebook group of all places! She happened to live 20 minutes away from us! We met for coffee and she chose US! We have an AMAZING open adoption! We meet a few times a year and talk monthly or more!

Advice to Future Child

Dear future child,

Where do I begin? Mommy and daddy love you so unbelievably much and our love has no conditions. We want you to live your life and not be who you’re not. You’ll always be loved and supported by us. We hope you realize how much your birth family loved you so much— that them choosing us to be your mom and dad was out of the purest of love and selflessness.

Perspectives on Open Adoption

Open adoption isn’t scary like people often think!!! We absolutely love ours! Every open adoption looks different to each situation but we have been open with our son from day one. From books to talking about his birth mother in everyday conversation. Our children will never grow up not knowing their story. After all, it’s their story- not ours.
