All About Steven & Debra

We have been married since 2013 and have been looking forward to starting a family for a long time. We tried 2 rounds of IVF but were unsuccessful. After much thought, we have decided to build our family through adoption.

We live in a suburban neighborhood in New York. We live close to a beach and close to many beautiful parks. We also have a train station close by so we can easily take a trip into New York City. My husband works in Media Production for a school and I am an in-house lawyer for a corporation. We both now work from home sometimes which will be helpful when we welcome an adoptive baby. We enjoy Mets games, traveling, the beach, spending time with friends and family, and, most recently, we have gotten into hiking and playing online games with friends (even though we are terrible at it). We also love going to concerts to see our favorite bands (from the 90s mostly). We have two adorable sweet cats who we couldn’t love more.

Why Adoption?

We have always wanted a family. Unfortunately, we have been unable to have kids of our own after trying on our own and a couple of rounds of IVF. We decided that we did not want to go through additional rounds for the slim chance that it may work. We have decided to build our family through adoption. We know there are expectant moms that are choosing adoption for a variety of reasons. We know that this decision cannot be easy. We will provide a loving, caring environment if you decide to place your baby with us.

Family & Home

We bought a home in Eastern Long Island so we could have space and to be close to our families. We have a 3 bedroom, 2 bathroom house in a quiet neighborhood. The house has a fully finished basement and beautiful sunroom, or favorite room in the house.

We now live about 15 minutes from a beach and around 20 minutes from our parents. We see our parents pretty regularly and as well as our siblings who do not live far away. They all cannot wait to spoil our new family member.

How others describe me

Steve is very kind, thoughtful and creative. He always thinks carefully and critically about things he does as well as what he watches and listens to. Our nephews and friends’ kids all love him. He gives great advice and can be a big kid himself sometimes so they love that. He cannot wait to share his passion for music, comics and gaming.

Deb is very kind and caring. She has a very nurturing nature and is a giving and selfless person. She is the logical one.

How We Met

We met on Match.com in 2007. After emailing, texting and some phone calls, we went on our first date. The date was going so well, we went to Starbucks after dinner where Deb got hot chocolate, since she doesn’t like coffee, and we have been together ever since.

We enjoy Mets games, traveling, going to the beach, going to movies, spending time with friends and family, and, most recently, we have gotten into hiking and playing some online games with friends. We also love going to concerts to see our favorite bands (from the 90s mostly). We like to get to the city when we can to catch a Broadway show, walk the high line or Central Park and eat some delicious food.

We got married in 2013 in Las Vegas! Both of our parents love Vegas, so it wasn't hard to convince them to go. We had a beautiful ceremony and had an amazing dinner with about 30 friends and family at a restaurant in Ceasar’s Palace. It was an amazing day and experience.

Advice to Future Child

We want you to know that you are loved. Be yourself and things will work out. Don't sweat the small stuff. If it's out of your control don't worry about it. You do the best you can do because that's all you can do.

Perspectives on Open Adoption

We are happy to share information and pictures as well as have calls. We understand open adoption can be beneficial for both the child and birth parents. We are open to talking about additional contact, if that is something you desire.
