All About Will & Shana

Hello! Thank you for taking the time to get to know us!  We met over 22 years ago in college, and knew instantly that we were meant to be together. We’ve been married for 19 years and love spending time with each other. Our home is full of love and laughter! Shana is an Elementary School Counselor and Will is a Computer Engineer. We have two cats, Tank and Tilly, whom we adopted in October 2021.

Our time together has strengthened our relationship. Like any marriage, we’ve had our ups and downs, but we’ve been able to work through it all. We believe that communication is key and talk often about our feelings and experiences. We love spending time together, playing with our cats, being with friends and family or watching movies or funny shows. Travel is high on our list as we believe that there are so many wonderful things to see and learn about. Will has a great sense of humor and makes Shana laugh every day! Shana is often seen curled up with a good book or in the kitchen cooking for friends or family. We love to have fun together with whatever we are doing.

We hope our profile gives you a better sense of who we are and what we offer. Please don’t hesitate to reach out to us with any questions.

Why Adoption?

We’ve always wanted to be parents and have a lot of love in our hearts to share with our future child. After struggling with infertility and treatments for years, we had long conversations about how we wanted to grow our family. We feel that adoption allows us to grow our family and will let us share the love we have with whomever we are lucky to adopt.

Family & Home

We live in the suburbs of Washington DC on the Virginia side. Our house is on a cul de sac with amazing neighbors who look out for each other. Our school system is excellent (one of the top rated in Virginia) and is incredibly diverse. Our child will be exposed to a number of cultures, races and religions with plenty of resources in our area including learning events, festivals, and museums. We have lots of walking trails, parks, theaters and sports teams around us. In the Fall, we can hear the local high school’s football games going on from our house! We have a great yard that is perfect for a swing set, playing sports or just hanging out!

Family is incredibly important to us. We have our biological family whom we are close to, but we’ve also been blessed with friends who are like family to us as well. We get together with each side of our families every couple of months, but talk on the phone, text or FaceTime every week. If we aren’t seeing family over the weekends, we can often be found at one of our friend’s houses, hanging out, cooking and laughing together.

How others describe me

Will is a fun loving, video game playing, photo taking, movie buff.He loves taking things apart to figure out how they work and then puts them together again. He is great at getting people to laugh (he makes Shana laugh every day) and enjoys spending time with friends and family. Will is great at seeing the bigger picture in life, and helping the people who are close to him get where they’d like to go. He loves the beach where he can photograph wildlife and play in the ocean. HIs smile lights up a room.

Shana is incredibly kind and caring, which shows through in everything she does. She loves a good book and uses funny voices when reading to our nieces and god kids. She loves entertaining and cooking for others, movies with Will and spending time with friends and family. She is amazing at keeping things on track and organized as well as lending an ear when someone wants to talk. She loves singing out loud despite the fact that she’s not very good and dancing around while she sings. Shana finds cooking relaxing and is always finding new recipes to try.

how we met

How We Met

We met in college when Will had gone to Shana’s dorm to meet up with a mutual friend. The first time we met, we knew that we were meant to be together. From that moment, we were inseparable. Will gave Shana a promise ring in the first couple of months of their relationship, because he knew she was his future. Since Will is two years older, once he graduated from college, we spent two years long distance, spending as much time together on the weekends. When we hit the two year mark of dating, Will surprised Shana by proposing at their anniversary dinner. She didn’t see it coming!

Advice to Future Child

Dear sweet child, we are committed to raising you in a loving, nurturing environment. We believe that the time we’ve had together has strengthened our relationship to be the best parents possible for you. We believe in diversity and being respectful to others and will expose you to different cultures to help cultivate who you are. We believe that strong relationships with the important people in your life will help give you the skills you need to be a good person and true to yourself. We are committed to providing you with the best that life can offer.

Perspectives on Open Adoption

We welcome an open adoption. We believe that letting our future child know they are adopted is important as it is part of who they are and will become. We welcome open communication and visits and other ways to communicate and keep in touch. We are happy to discuss your thoughts and feelings, and work with you to create a plan that supports everyone involved.
